# Mass-Spring system

We shall take as working example the experiment springFree.exp.

#### Basic data

The basic data for this experiment, in adequate units, are:
• m = 30
• k = 3000
• rest-length = 1000
• Amplitude = 100

#### Measurement of the free Period

We start from a given amplitude, with zero velocity, and allow for 10 full oscillations (checking the sign change in velocity after the 10th oscillation)

This results in

• T = 62812/10 = 0.6281

#### Checking the results:

The theoretical value for the period is 2*p*sqrt(m/k):

T = 2*p*sqrt(m/k) = 0.2*p = 0.6283

#### Assignment:

Change the parameters of the system and observe the results. For instance, change the mass and, for a different experiment, change the spring constant. Measure for each case the period and check with the theoretical computations.
